Prerequisite: English as a Second Language—Level 4 or equivalent Overall Goals: - Provide students who already have a degree of fluency with communicative strategies for expressing themselves more precisely via more complex structures in oral and written English.
- Enhance students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills using a variety of communicative activities focusing on topics such as cultural awareness, life plans, and technology.
Intended Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, students will be able to: - Describe a busy schedule and discuss manners, etiquette, and cultural awareness.
- Show concern and offer help regarding health matters.
- Identify and discuss symptoms, medical procedures, and treatments.
- Offer a solution to a problem, indicate acceptance, and evaluate the quality of a service.
- Identify genres of reading/viewing material and recommend something to read or watch.
- Convey a message and tell someone about the news.
- Describe natural disasters and prepare for an emergency.
- Practice writing emails.
Methodology: - Vocabulary activities
- Writing activities (brainstorming ideas, drafting, revising, editing, etc.)
- Grammar activities and games
- Individual and group presentations
- Role play
- Pronunciation activities
- Pair and group discussions
- Listening activities (listening for gist, for specific information, and for details)
