Learning Objectives

In this course, participants will be guided in the design and realization of their personal photography projects. This course on personal projects is intended for students with basic experience in photography and aims to help them articulate sequences of images that express their personal vision.

We will explore all stages of a project, including design, research, production, final realization, and presentation. The final project may take any printed form, such as a photo fanzine, a mock-up of a photo book, or a collection of works presented in a designated space. The focus is on developing personal expression through photography and acquiring the tools necessary to carry out individual photography projects.

Topics will include choosing, approaching, and following up on a subject; analyzing, editing, sequencing, and presenting images on screen and in print. The conceptual, formal, and technical aspects of projects will be addressed, discussed, and reflected upon in class. The course emphasizes experimentation and the development of a personal visual language, with a strong focus on self-expression through photography.

This course is for people who already have a body of work (completed or in progress), want to start a new one, or have finished a project but don't know how to present or develop it further. We will explore key issues related to the creation of photographic series, photo essays, experimental and documentary works. In addition, we will view and discuss notable personal projects that have influenced the evolution and history of the photographic medium.
