Prerequisite: Introduction to Macintosh or Windows or equivalent knowledge and familiarity with the internet

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to HTML, the markup language used to create web pages. Students will also be introduced to other elements that result in successful sites such as image preparation, page layout control, navigation and typography.

By the end of the course, students will have learned the essentials of HTML and will have built a set of simple interactive web pages with embedded images, links and text. Other topics include understanding the box model, organizing data with tables, building interactive forms, transferring your site to a web server and a brief introduction to some HTML5 elements.

This course also offers an introduction to Cascading Style Sheets (including some CSS3 techniques). Design concepts like page layout, navigation strategy and site styling will be covered. Also an introduction to responsive web pages using bootstrap allowing you to build sites that look and perform appropriately on every platform (desktop, tablet, mobile). We will learn how to include JavaScript/jQuery libraries to your pages, embed sound and video, and where to find web resources for specific tasks.

There will be a brief introduction on Process and Design which includes: how to approach building your site, understanding your audience and their needs, site maps and wire frames, and a brief description of what SEO is.

By the end of the course, students will have learned to develop focused, effective sites and will have published a small personal site to an external server.

  • a seasonal worker who is not currently working, but retains ties with his/her employer;
  • self-employed;
  • overqualified for the position you currently hold and the course is relevant to your area of study.
You are not eligible to take these courses if you are:

  • a full-time student;
  • unemployed and/or receiving employment insurance or welfare;
  • receiving CSST (worker's compensation) from the SAAQ.
