Overall Goals:
  1. Do you lack confidence to speak with clients and colleagues? Do you worry about the clarity and effectiveness of your emails, letters or your proposals? This course is designed to help you communicate more confidently and effectively in a business environment.
  2. Emphasis is placed on effective workplace writing, speaking and on developing interpersonal skills which typifies a business context.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Initiate and maintain discourses more fluently in a business context.
  • Build relationships and develop networks.
  • Prepare and deliver successful oral presentations.
  • Write and respond to email messages, memos, letters.
  • Write summaries and reports.
  • Participate in meetings and negotiations.
  • Carry out effective interviews.
  • Write a job application letter and resume.
  • Give opinions on work-related issues.

Methodology:
  • The use of visual aids, games, lectures.
  • Writing assignments.
  • Pair and group activities.
  • Reading and listening to authentic texts and interviews.
  • Role-playing activities.
  • Engaging in discussions, presentations, and case studies.
  • Participating in pair share and other collaborative activities.

Required Material:

Students may choose to purchase either a digital book or a paper book, not both.
The purchase should only be made after the first class.

  • Device: PC (Windows 11) or Mac OS 13 (Ventura or newer).
    Laptops or desktops are recommended for full functionality.

    Students may be able to participate using Chromebooks or tablets, but features may be limited.
