An introduction to the world of contemporary calligraphy, this class is an invitation to learn some of the basics of writing well formed, expressive letters. With these simplified letter forms we will then create lively calligraphic projects incorporating an exploration of textural brushwork with ink on paper. Class demonstrations combined with individual instruction will inspire students of any level to combine images with text in a dynamic manner.

No experience necessary.

Materials: Approximately $30

Students should bring to the first class :

• HB and 2B pencils, masking tape, white eraser, 12 or 18-inch metal ruler, paper towels
• pad of Canson Pro Layout Marker paper (50 sheets, 9 x 12, smooth, white)
• pad of Mixed-Media paper (Canson, Strathmore or other, 11 x 14)
• Chinese paintbrush, medium size, brown hairs
• Bottle of Nobel black ink

We will discuss any additional materials in the first class.
